J. Sidlow Baxter characterizes Nehemiah in four ways:

1.      A man of prayer.

2.      A man of faith.

3.      A man of courage.

4.      A man of action.

In Nehemiah chapters 1-6 we see the following:

·         Chapter 1 Nehemiah’s intercession.

·         Chapter 2 Nehemiah’s expedition to Jerusalem.

·         Chapter 3 Nehemiah’s exhortation to the struggling people in Jerusalem.

·         Chapter 4 The rebuilding attempted.

·         Chapter 5 The rebuilding persisting in the midst of trials.

·         Chapter 6 The rebuilding completed.

In Nehemiah Chapters 7 -13 we see a shift from the reconstruction of the walls and gates to the re-instruction of the people of Jerusalem.
